SCAM, and yes, we attended the 90 Minute Presentation!
I received a call from “America West” claiming that I had won a free cruise from my choice of Carnival or Royal Caribbean that included free roundtrip airfare. Although the message stated that this was not a timeshare presentation, it sounded a lot like one and my husband and I were hopeful that if we sat through the presentation we might actually receive vouchers for cruise tickets. We saw a lot of negative reviews online that claimed this was a scam, but it seemed as if none of these people had actually gone to the presentation. Curiosity got the best of us and we decided to sign up for the presentation. It was to be 90 minute sales presentation on a travel company new in the area to be held at the Marriot conference room with refreshments. The presentation ran much like the timeshare presentations we had attended in the past. A nice looking fast talker ran through a slideshow highlighting several vacation packages and informed us that we could pay $8,000ish to be a member and then we could book these vacations at deep discounts. The flyer that you leave with gives an address where you are to mail an activation fee in the form of a check or money order. That by itself sends up a redflag. This check or money order was to be made out and sent to a company that we had never heard of and mailed to “The Travel Center, 23219 Stringtown Road #223, Clarksburg, MD 20871.” When we looked up this address that’s when we knew 100% that this was a scam. This address can be linked with many false company names that don’t stick around for long. There are several accounts from the Better Business Bureau reporting similar scams with this address listed. It appears that several people have sent money for either activation fees or vacations and then could never contact anyone again. Many even report paying thousands to join the vacation clubs and then can no longer make contact after a few weeks. We were skeptical, we were curious, we went to the presentation, and it is officially a scam. Don’t be fooled!
