Called and left a message on my mother's answering machine. Caller said something to the effect of: "This is the IRS. This is your final notice before we file a lawsuit against you". My mother (in her 70's) was very scared. Called me and asked me to look up the number. I called the number while my mom was on the line. A woman with a thick accent answered immediately. I asked her which IRS office she was calling from and she didn't answer. I asked her if I could speak with her supervisor and she said no. I asked her why I should believe she was actually calling from the IRS and she said, "If you don't believe this is the IRS, why don't you just hang up?".
