This is a serious scam with people pretending to be with the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency). They threaten arrest by the RCMP, advising you owe back taxes and are being sued. First, the CRA does not contact people about back taxes by phone, nor do they threaten arrest. These sorry excuses for human beings also demand payment by credit card, prepaid credit card or access to your bank account. The CRA doesn't accept payment by prepaid credit card that I'm aware of, nor credit card. They also tell you that the "claim" is a criminal matter. FYI - back taxes are a TAX matter, not criminal or civil. These criminals depend on people being scared and intimidated by their threats of arrest and the aggressive tone they use. I was informed it was "Officer --- from the CRA". I explained that I knew full well that he wasn't an officer of any kind or employed by the CRA. His response? "Yes, I am!" That was enough to make me laugh. I hope no one is taken in by this amateur scam or the disgusting people involved.
