I called back and the rep said it was about a matter of tax fraud and wanted me to call back on a different number. The connection was very bad, the rep had a severe accent and there was a regular beep on the line, all of which made it very difficult to hear what he was saying. This had to be a scam.

I received a pre-recorded call from someone claiming to IRS Officer Eric Foster. The call said that they had an urgent matter to discuss and to call them right away as it was time sensitive. The call back number they gave me was the same number that had originally called me on, 716-249-2223. I called the number back and was immediately speaking with a woman with a thick, possibly Indian, accent. She asked me to state my name, she then asked me if my last name is "x*x", and I told her no, that is my maiden name. She then asked me to spell my last name. I did. She told me she was calling in regard to a case which the IRS has pending against me, in which I was being charged with defrauding the government. I told her this was the first time I had heard anything regarding any type of case. She said she had an affidavit that she would read to me and that the call is being recorded and I should not speak until she was done reading the affidavit. What she read sounded very official and I didn't really understand most of it because of the legal jargon as well as her thick accent. After she was done reading she asked if I had any questions, and I said I was confused and why is this the first I am hearing of it. She said that the IRS had made multiple attempts to contact me and was unsuccessful. She then said that in about 45 minutes the local police authority would be at my house to arrest me. She also mentioned that my assets would be frozen including a lien on my house and my car being repossessed. I kept saying I was confused and then she became verbally aggressive, raising her voice and saying, "ma'am i have not asked you for payment or credit card have I?" To which I responded, "no I never said you did, but I am very confused--" at this point she cut me off aggressively and said "you got to talk now let me explain something to you, if someone is trying to help you, you should be respectful and appreciative of that help." I said that she had just told me I was about to arrested and I'm confused and concerned. I told her I needed to call my husband, at which point she said, "no need to do all of that yet...." I told her again that I needed to speak with my husband and then I hung up on her. This caller was extremely aggressive and malicious. I didn't find out until later that this telephone number has been linked to several other malicious and fraudulent calls.

A man, left a message on my answering machine stating that he was an officer with the IRS and that I needed to call him back immediately. I think he said his name was Mike. He never said the name of the person he was requesting to speak with or what it was regarding. He just said in a stern, strong, official sounding voice that he was from the IRS and that I needed to call him back immediately, and that I should not ignore his call.

This is clearly a scam; possibly a debt collector looking for someone who used to have my number. Or perhaps he is trying to steal peoples money by pretending to be an IRS officer, so people with give him their banking information and other personal information, etc. If the IRS wants to speak with you, they will send you a letter, which will include information that can be verified to ensure that it is really the IRS wanting to speak with you.

Hang up on this person; or better yet, do not pick up these calls. Report this jerk and his fraud scam to the IRS and Attorney General's Office.
