My brother-in-law first received a call from someone claiming to be a process server and that he had been named as a co-defendant in a lawsuit that I was party to. When I called them back, all they would tell me was the company name was ARA and that there is a complaint against me by Sunbank for hot check (which would be in the prosecutor's office, not coming through a private party). I have been a paralegal for over 10 years and when I tried to explain what service of process meant, asked for the county where the case was filed, case number, etc., he said well it was service of process to try to verify my address. Then when I tried to explain that wasn't service of process he hung up on me.

Caller said the company is providing a hydro power saver that plugs into the wall to save electricity (40%). He said it was the electrical research dept. I was advised that the cost for the item was $249.00 payable by credit card (Mastercard or American Express) or could be shipped C.O.D. I advised that I would have to call B.C. Hydro (since I live in B.C.) to verify the legitimacy of the offer.
The individual had an East Indian accent. I picked up that this was nothing more than a scam, but wanted to get as much information from the caller as possible.

This company has been calling us for over a year now for a person who we do not know. I have tried repeatedly to get our phone number removed, and they either say, "I will remove it" or "your phone number is not showing up on our list". These people are RUDE and will only give limited information. As of today, 12-21-2010, we are still receiving the calls for "Myra Guidry" a person we have never heard of! I would like to know HOW TO GET OFF THIS COLLECTION AGENCY'S CALL LIST! Who can I report them to????
