he'd gotten my name from the chepal -- I did a lot of work with the chepal and it didn't seem weird at all. He said he was trying to find a "big sister" for a 12-year-old girl who had recently moved from England to live with her elderly grandmother in the area, a friend of his. She was having trouble adjusting, etc. and the grandmother was worried about her. Would I be willing to spend an afternoon or two a week with her, take her to a movie, help her with her homework, etc. I'd been "highly recommended" as someone who might help. I was pretty flattered and said I might be able to. He started telling me all about this "girl" who had a troubled life, she acted out a lot, she needed discipline, etc. It quickly turned into him questioning me about whether I'd be willing to spank her with a hairbrush on her bare bottom. Later it turned out that another girl at my college had gotten a similar call -- they never figured out who it was. I share the story because this person "sounded right" to me at first -- totally plausible, and had the right "hook" -- and I think I probably stayed on the phone a lot longer than I would have because of that. Ugh.

Same as the above - called aying I owed on a loan - i knew I had never taken out. At first they woyuld only say sometime in 2008 - then finally said it was novemebr or december. Then would not give the name of the company - finally told me SJM marketing. I asked why this is the first I am hearinf about it - they said they had sent me an e-mail in 2008. How could I have gotten a loan and be in default in the same month? I told them I knew this was a scam and never call again. I then found a number for sjm marketing - they do not even lend money - they only match brokers and lenders and they only operate in california. I am on the other coast. I have reported the number and name they are using to my state attorney general, the FBI and homeland Security.

Thanks for your sympathy. An intsereting thing here in Missouri. I've not seen one ad by either Talent or McCaskill simply telling what they believe and would like to accomplish in office. They're too busy griping about the other one, which lowers my opinion of both of them greatly. It's highly annoying to think I have to vote for either one of them, quite frankly.
