Left message claiming to be Verizon Wireless thanking me for a recent purchase. Two things made me suspicious. They've called three days in a row which says "war dialer" to me. Also, the caller ID was the typical "Toll Free Call" that war dialers use. I blocked them.

Verizon called looking for the person who had this number before me (3 years ago). I told the caller that he had the wrong number. He asked for my personal info. I told him all he needed to know was that I was not who he was looking for. He again asked for my info and told me he couldn't remove my number out of his system without it. I told him he was full of it and hung up.

Turned out to be a legit Verizon message center that tells you that your acct is past due, then gives payment options including pay in full, or, pay minimum amt which will keep account from being cut off. Another number they use is 888-821-0284 sent via text. Neither number seemed to offer an option to talk to a human, and the 888 number wanted the last 4 digits of SSN to begin!

Why they don't identify themselves thru caller ID, or, have these numbers listed on their web site [or anyplace on the web, google for cryin' out loud) where you can verify it's really Verizon calling is beyond me. That's a PR issue if I ever saw one.
