I received an auto call telling me that I can get lower interest rates on my credit card. I thought that was funny since I don’t have a credit card and was curious as to where the call would go, so when prompted to press 1 to talk to a live “representative,” I did.
Once a human got on the phone, in a very thick accent that I actually can’t ID because it was between British and Indian at the same time, she told me that she can lower my interest rate because I had never missed a payment, was never late on a payment, and I had never exceeded my credit limit. I thought to myself, of course I have never done any of these things because I don’t have a credit card at all. So, I asked her, “Which card?" She responded with, “We service Bank of America, Chase, CityBank…" plus one I don't remember. I responded with, "Really? And how did you get my name?” She then promptly hung up on me before I could even tell her I don’t have a credit card! I didn’t even get a chance to laugh at her!! Dammit!! An attempt at returning the call results in a phone voicemail box that is full.

Received call from 9412542091 on my unpublished cell phone and heard a ring tone on the other end. After two rings, a guy picks up and waited for me to say hello. He started blabbing about an extended warranty on a vehicle I haven't owned in over six months. "oh, sorry. what kind of car are you driving now?" I wished I had an air horn, but calmly replied 'no thanks' and hung up.

Individual called asking about a back brace, covered by medicare (which I do not use). This person is trying to steal identity by asking for information, they somehow knew my name but called my father's phone number which I recently put down as policy holder/emergency contact at chiropractor but back brace was never mentioned during visit and I did not ask for one. This person needs to be investigated and/or arrested for attempted identity theft.

Got a call from this number 220-650-4590 in April 2014. They left a message that they have filed a case by IRS and that I need to call them right away in a different (very similar) number. I have dealt with similar group before and they would ask us to make the payment (about $2500) by Green Card Visa (prepaid) right away within an hour - otherwise we would get arrested. It is a fraud. I think that there is a Chinese group doing all these from Miami, a mere TELEMarketing group making all these fraudulent calls. Just ignore them. If possible, please file a simple complaint against this (and similar) unwanted, fraud calls in Federal registry: http://www.fcc.gov/complaints (Interesting thing is that my number is in Do-Not-Call list. It does not seem to matter for these people).

The guy was barely English-speaking, claiming to be a something Smith. I only understood a tenth of what he said, but I did get that "if I don't call back, he can only wish me luck as the situation unfolds on me." It put me on defense immediately. I just got this number. This shouldn't be allowed by any debt collector no matter what or if anything is owed. I'd hate for an elder of mine to get a threatening call like that.
